What is the course about?

The International Baccalaureate Diploma is an internationally recognised qualification valued by universities throughout the UK as a sophisticated and challenging alternative to AS/A2 levels. It enables students to pursue a broader range of academic subjects and to develop their study, creative and social skills to levels that constitute an ideal preparation for university life.
The IB Diploma consists of 6 main subjects. Students are required to study the following: English (UK and world literature); a modern language (French, German, Spanish or Italian); humanities (history or psychology); science (biology, chemistry, physics or environmental systems and society); mathematics and one other from theatre, visual arts, modern languages, humanities, science or business studies.
There are also 3 core elements: Theory of Knowledge, combining and reflecting on all the other subjects; Creativity, Action and Service (CAS), which develops the individual creatively and as a participating member of the community; and a 4,000 word, self selected research essay.
The essence of the Baccalaureate is its focus on individualised, critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and a readiness to see all the elements of a person’s education, social, creative and academic, of being of equal and lasting value.
