The AS/A2 Mathematics course develops the ideas and techniques studied at GCSE level to enable you to apply maths to solve real life problems and to develop your interest in the subject. A knowledge of advanced mathematics is essential in a wide range of careers from the sciences to economics, business and computing. The AS course consists of pure mathematics (extending your knowledge of algebra, trigonometry and introducing the ideas of calculus) and decision maths (the study of algorithms, networks and optimising resources against constraints). In your A2 course, you will continue your study of pure mathematics along side either a mechanics module (the mathematics of physical systems) or a statistics module (the analysis and interpretation of data and probability distributions).
