Electronics covers a wide range of exciting and modern developments ranging from microscopic electronic circuits and machines, mobile and computer communications, advances in medical diagnosis and treatment, development in the latest audio and video technologies. The AS covers basic analogue and digital electronics, including operation amplifiers and logic gates, and a project of your own choice, involving designing, constructing and testing an electronic circuit. The A2 includes microprocessor control systems, interfacing, radio and optical communications, as well as a further coursework project. Although not essential for any university degree, electronics is an excellent grounding for most technological subjects including higher education courses and careers in electrical engineering, electronic design, computer hardware, communications and control engineering.
